The BIG Churchyard Birdwatch: Saturday 27th January

Very many thanks to all those brave people who came along to take part in the RSPB Big Garden Birdwatch that was held in the churchyard between 10 am – 2 pm. It was lovely to see so many children interested in the birds and the craft table in the church – and the cakes! Many thanks also to all who made soup, bread, tea, coffee and baked some wonderful cakes, all of which helped to warm up our bird spotters, as it really was very very cold outside!

During the 4 hours, 26 species of bird were seen in and around the churchyard, with sightings being confirmed and recorded by local naturalist David Bryant. The details have now been added to the RSPB website. The team there will then collate the results nationally – an explanation of how this is done is available on their website:

We were even more fortunate in attracting the attention of the Eastern Daily Press, both before the event and on the day! We have featured on line and in the EDP, Evening News and Yarmouth Mercury, and are very pleased and proud that Hemblington Church was included in this way.
